About Colm Duffy
Currently a Research Fellow at the University of Galway working on the FORESIGHT project. Prior to this I was an Agri-Food System Ecologist at the James Hutton Institute, working on agricultural systems and value chain mapping utilising consequential LCA techniques. Previously, a Postdoctoral researcher at UL and NUIGalway. I worked on the SeQUEsTER project, developing the GOBLIN landscape model. I also worked in Bangor university developing low emissions dairy systems for Costa Rica. In addition, as a PhD Researcher, I focused on developing Climate Smart Agriculture (CSA), under the broad themes of Adaptation, Mitigation and Planning & Development. This research allowed me to work extensively with household data from Vietnam and Malawi in terms of modelling adaptation and extension. Regarding mitigation, I have also developed a carbon model which is focused on forest cover replacing various livestock systems. Further, I have modeled the impacts of rural land uses on water quality in Ireland over a 20 year period. I have also completed an MSc in Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security in NUI Galway, and A BSc in International Development & Food Policy Graduate (UCC), specialising in Sustainable Agriculture.
