I am very proud to be the Chief Executive of Supporting Communities (SC), an organisation that I have been a part of since 1994 and have had the honour of leading since 2014. We are a vibrant and diverse staff of approximately 30 who are passionate, compassionate and professional in all we do.In essence, SC is a grass roots community development charity. We champion community participation by developing groups, supporting active citizenship and helping to build cohesive communities. We promote best practice in community participation in Ireland, north & south, through a grassroots approach to community development, providing tailored support, advice, information and training to new and existing community groups, statutory and voluntary organisations. We encourage active participation and democratic power redress through developing the capacity of individuals and community-based charities to enable them to have a voice and to confidently engage with local and national government, develop projects and programmes that tackle social, housing, environmental and economic issues that are important to them and their communities.Supporting Communities offer a comprehensive support service to grass roots organisations by providing training and one to one advice on issues such as; good governance, volunteering, managing finances, reporting to the charity commission and advising on adherence to rules and regulations.Ultimately, Supporting Communities provides a voice for tenants/residents of social landlords across Ireland and empowers individuals to help themselves by making a difference to their own lives and the lives of people where they reside.Currently, I am a Board member of the Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH) for NI and have been involved in various roles within the social housing sector over the past 35 years. I am passionate about enabling and encouraging professionalism and leadership, not only within my own organisation, but also across the sector in general, and that is why I am proud to be a mentor on behalf of CIH.
