Hematologist/Oncologist at Cancer Care Specialists in Carson City, NV.Colt Williams, MD joined Cancer Care Specialists in 2023. As part of the BS-MD Accelerated Medical Program at the University of Nevada, Reno, Dr. Williams received a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology manga cum laude in cursu honorum in 2013. He matriculated to medical school at the University of Nevada Reno School of Medicine and received his Doctor of Medicine degree in 2017. He completed his Internal Medicine Residency at the University of Colorado Denver in 2020 and went on to complete dual fellowships in Hematology/Oncology and Biomedical Ethics at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN in 2023. He is board certified in Internal Medicine, Hematology, and Oncology.Dr. Williams has received many awards throughout his career. In medical school he completed a scholarly concentration in Clinical Ethics, was inducted into the Gold Humanism Honor Society, and was awarded by his peers with the Professionalism Award for Respect. During residency, the American College of Physicians bestowed upon him the “Do No Harm” award. His design and implementation of a clinical trial to improve physician burnout in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic earned him Mayo Clinic’s Well Being Award.While at Mayo Clinic, Dr. Williams was an active physician-scientist, conducting research on the ethics of oncology care delivery, focusing specifically on the financial burdens of oncology patients. He participated heavily in the Minnesota Medical Association’s Medical Ethics and Legal Affairs committee, helping to form state-level policy decisions to ensure equitable and just care for all.For Dr. Williams, the needs of the patient always come first. “I will never forget that I am treating a mother, a father, a sister, a brother, a child—that my patients are far more than just their disease”. He is interested in bringing cutting edge therapies to Cancer Care Specialists through his understanding of personalized genetic testing and his experience in designing clinical trials and managing patients on experimental therapies.Dr. Williams is married and has two children. He enjoys skiing, backpacking, fishing, and trying new recipes in the kitchen. He is supremely grateful to be able to give back to the Northern Nevada community that was the foundation of his training.
