While working in remote locations of Alaska for a large scale land surveying company it was my responsibility to assist in the operation of Global Positioning Systems (GPS) and total station surveying equipment. Data accumulated in the field was processed to determine location of property rights-of-way along the trans-Alaska pipeline corridor. Some of my duties included:• Operation and maintenance of surveying equipment including but not limited to hand held GPS devices, Topcon GPS and GNSS enabled survey equipment including data collectors, receivers, total stations and levels.• Assisting in the post processing of field data to ensure that accuracy and precision requirements were met.• Helping crew chief with project tasks, fieldwork schedules, resource requirements, and camping permits.• Responsible for procuring camping and work related supplies for extensive field work. This was a large task as our surveying was several hundred miles from the nearest supply chain on the remote Dalton Highway corridor.• Due to short window of summer months available to conduct field work, we worked as many hours as possible in extreme weather conditions.• Duties included documenting time and field work activities in an accurate and concise manner. These records were used to invoice the client for our time and materials, so attention to detail was crucial throughout the job.
