I hold a PhD degree in Religious Studies from Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand. My doctoral research was generally on the growing relationship between religion and politics in contemporary Africa. Using Ghana as a case study, I particularly explored the force of occult rumors in modern African politics. My thesis argued that although Ghanaian political elites may strategically position themselves with respect to the occult and rumors about it for political gains, the broader population is also implicated in this politicization of the occult in a highly pentecostalized public sphere. My PhD study built on my MA thesis that examined how Ghanaian politicians, and for that matter, African politicians, manipulate Pentecostal symbols for political gains.
