In 1997, I began developing the Communicating Mindfully (CM) curriculum and authored the book for the course several years later. Since then, CM has doubled as professional development training and inspired curriculum development around the globe. As a result, NHTI now embeds a mindful communication certificate into several degree programs--including information technology, human services, and addiction counseling--and offers related training to businesses. Participants in both formats regularly report that it is a life-changing experience, improving their personal and professional lives through increased awareness, motivation, confidence, connection, and productivity.I am passionate about the use of mindfulness and emotional intelligence in the teaching of communication. Such study can help students, teachers, business people, and healthcare professionals improve communication with their peers, colleagues, family members, friends, students/clients/patients. The CM approach to communication training helps people identify and modify habitual patterns of behavior that have caused conflict, limited productivity, and resulted in a general lack of satisfaction in their lives.
