Harriett Dietz Emerson is the Founder of communitas, a consulting firm that provides strategic planning, project management, program development and communications services. Harriett is passionate about and committed to helping clients serve their communities and reach their goals. Recently, Harriett served as the Planner at the Area Agency on Aging (AAOA) where she developed programs for older adults in Napa and Solano counties. She initiated several successful informational events, including workshops on transportation, housing, and census data. Harriett led public outreach efforts and initiated the AAOA's Facebook page, and managed the AAOA's procurement process for consultant services. As a consultant, she assisted local organizations serving older adults with management, strategic planning, marketing and business development services. These organizations included AgeSong, Episcopal Senior Communities, and the Center for Elders Independence. Her project management skills are strengthened through her experience at private and public agencies, which allows her to understand the perspectives of both client and consultant. She has developed procurement documents such as Requests for Proposals and Qualifications (RFP/RFQs) for public-sector agencies and led development of proposal and bid documents for private-sector clients. Harriett has extensive experience with managing scope, schedule and budgets and also managing large consulting teams. She has led strategic communication efforts for high-profile projects involving social media, community presentations, and development of informational materials. She has also assisted the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) with Long-Term Disaster Recovery efforts in Florida and Texas. During her career, Harriett has participated in several community development efforts, including urban design, transportation and land use planning. She has also assisted clients with business development, marketing and grant applications.
