Sir Adam Beck, the founder of Ontario’s electric power system, pursued a vision in 1906. “Power at cost” was his appeal. He had to ask permission from the public to use public revenues to accomplish the task. Beck also stated that “The gifts of nature are for the public”. 100 years later I started building on this vision after governments lost their way on the path to encouraging development of renewable energy. Since then, the project has grown to encompass more than just energy generation.Ontario, communities can enjoy significant socio-economic benefits by developing businesses that produce goods and services with a view to investing surplus revenues into building stronger communities. Community management of critical services can fulfill a need while creating jobs and attracting investment.
