Gunner's mates (GM) are responsible for the operation and maintenance of guided missile launching systems, gun mounts and other ordnance equipment, as well as small arms and magazines. They work with electrical and electronic circuitry; mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems.The duties performed by GMs include: * operating and maintaining guided missile launching systems, rocket launchers, gun mounts and other ordnance systems and equipment; * training and supervising crews in the use of all types of ordnance equipment, from large caliber guns and missile systems to small arms; * stowing, securing, requisitioning and reclassifying explosives; * operating and maintaining magazine flooding and sprinkling systems; * making mechanical, electrical and electronic casualty analysis using technical publications, circuit diagrams and blueprints; * repairing, maintaining, testing and calibrating ordnance equipment; * servicing hydraulic and pneumatic systems; repairing, maintaining, testing and calibrating microprocessing equipment; * repairing damaged hydraulic sealing surfaces, mating areas and threads; performing mechanical wire connections including soldering; operating and maintaining night optical devices; * operating optical scanning and marking devices to label, identify and report explosives' utilization/expenditure.

Worked as an independent, contract based sales agent where I was in charge of 14 Safeway, and Abertsons locations throughout southern metro Denver, stretching down to Castle Rock, and as far east as Elizabeth. I sold advertising space to local businesses to be distributed to grocery store shoppers on the reverse side of their checkout receipts. This involved being familiar with local business through out my territory, as well as making connections and building relationships with local business owners. This often started with cold calling. It was also important to build relationships with Safeway, and Albertsons management and personnel. I was in charge of tracking the register tape delivery schedule for each store. It was important to make sure each store was running current ads. I usually just went to the store and installed the new tape on each register personally, and made sure no old, tape was left in the store.

Managed the training program for more than 75 field technicians, between 2 Dish Network service locations. The Englewood CO location was my primary office. I traveled to the Colorado Springs location at least once per week, or as needed to facilitate training. New technicians were required to go through a 5 week training course, which involved both classroom study as well as OJT, before being released into the field. As the local technical trainer, I was responsible for organising, and facilitating this course. The field technician position is by no means an easy job. It requires physical stamina, as well as significant technical inclinability. Only a certian percentage of candidates have what it takes for this job. It was my responsibility to identify which candidates were not making the cut. Satellite communications, and broadcast technology is a rapidly changing industry. Constant up-training is needed to keep field technicians on the top of their game. Weekly up-training was required for all technicians. I also facilitated an advancement training program for existing technicians. This training was to advance their knowledge, and field capability, and was required for advancement to the next higher pay grade. I was hand chosen for this position by the General Manager of the Englewood service center, but this position was actually outside of the service center's chain of command. This position reported directly to the corporate Regional Trainer. This placed me in an independent position with no direct supervision. While it was my job to serve the two local centers, the direction came from corporate. This put me in a position of corporate liaison to the local centers that I served. I had to balance the structured training programs handed down from corporate, with the needs of the individual centers. This required a lot of communication both ways.
