As a member of the New Product Development Team (NPD) at TG0, I was responsible for mechanical design and conceptualisation, hands-on prototyping, capacitive sensor testing, product assembly, product rendering and project management. Primarily, I was involved with the design of a smart dial integrating capacitive sensing technology unique to the company, showing an awareness for electronics design, CMF/User Experience, manufacturability, repairability and human centered factors. I quickly adapted to the fast paced nature of this start-up, undertaking multiple projects at once and managing individual components of wider assemblies when required.

I developed a comprehensive database of over 50 Industrial Design Engineering (IDE) spin-out companies, creating a framework to track growth and success. I then employed a machine learning model trained on over 46,000 start-ups, with an accuracy of 73.6%, to predict whether these companies presented good exit opportunities (M&A, IPO, Growth) to demonstrate which of these start-ups were expected to succeed further. My findings would promote the success of the IDE course, identifying cumulative funding raised and post-valuation metrics across these companies since 1999 as over £140 million and £330 million respectively. After speaking to a number of founders, I was able to highlight common traits that led to either success or failure across the sustainability, fire safety and experiential drinks industries to name a few.

I investigated the benefits of weather-compensation in various housing-weather year scenarios for ground source heat pumps and conducted in-depth analysis and modeling of heat pump systems This involved leveraging digital twin software to gather COP data. My weather compensation models presented potential annual savings of up to £250.21 and a reduction of 71.13kg of carbon emissions for the average UK homeowner. Through market analysis, I was able to map evolving electricity tariff cost and CO2 profiles, demonstrating the saving advantages compared to air source alternatives.
