In addition to this we also support the mount and plinth making for our regularly changing exhibitions, and run 3 historical working objects including a 113 year old industrial Mill Engine.One of my key attributes in this role is providing solutions to technical problems utilising the skills of the team around me, often under very tight and pressing deadlines. I’ve become known across the museum as a key problem solver, and for this reason I am often sought after by project teams from numerous other departments.To support our touring Robots exhibition, I currently lead a team on the set up, second line maintenance, and pack-down of the exhibition. I also provide training for the local maintenance team at each venue to ensure they can cope with first line maintenance and simple repairs which reduces our callout rate.I have had heavy involvement in reforming the health and safety procedures across our department ensuring we meet our legal obligations across all of our operations. Examples include a ground up reassessment of all COSHH substances, production of new RAMS for the majority of our work, modernising our Steam Generator operation procedures, and creating a new maintenance and operation manual for our historic Mill Engine. My responsibilities included maintaining and repairing all of the Electro Mechanical and Audio Visual interactive exhibits within the Science Museum. We also look after the museum simulators, lighting and sounds, event set up, and water features.From an Electro Mechanical side my main strength is in the fabrication and repair of parts for mechanical interactive exhibits, I can turn a hand to most things, but tended towards jobs which required parts fabricated or repaired. AV is definitely my weaker skill set, but it is an area I am learning very quickly.
