I am a Professional Engineer who has spent the last 20 years working in the energy industry, with extensive expertise in most systems involved in the delivery of natural gas to customers. During this time, I have designed pipelines and gas distribution stations including measurement, SCADA/telemetry, and odorant systems. I have learned the importance of balancing my technical background with strong leadership and communication skills as well as consensus-building across many different disciplines in both private and public partnerships. My favourite question is ‘why?’…Why do we follow the current procedures and processes? Why are the mechanical or electronic software devices we use designed the way they are? Understanding the ‘why’, leads us on a path to the ‘how’ things get accomplished, and this in turn enables us to change and manipulate the ‘hows’ in order to achieve the desired results.
