I am a scientist. After completing a joint honours degree in Microbiology and Pharmacology, I have progressed to a Masters in Industrial Biotechnology at the University of Strathclyde. As this course approaches the end; I am beginning to look towards future employment.My interests as a scientist include biomedical and healthcare science, natural product/secondary metabolite discovery, and the regulatory environment of science. Through module selections, and various projects, I've gained educational experience of all of these areas. I would very much like to progress into a work environment where some or all of these skill areas are an essential component. My educational achievements thus far include end-of-year projects at HNC, HND, Bsc. Honours and an ongoing project at the Msc. level. I have completed lab-based, critical and data analysis-based projects on topics including; antibiotic resistance in healthcare, microbe growth and media composition, and natural product discovery. I have maintained part-time employment for much of my time as a student, baring the period of Covid lockdowns from 2020 to 2021. My initial employment was as a contracted self-employed steward at a train station; though not a science-oriented role, this did offer me a number of vital skills. Working as part of a time, and working to liaise across multiple teams, from station staff to drivers, management and conductors. This was primarily a health-and-safety oriented role, so I have ample experience of working in a potentially dangerous environment with a safety-focussed mindset.My most recent position has been as a server and barman at a small restaurant. Again, this has involved working across teams, coordinating with front-of-house staff, and the kitchen staff, maintaining adherence to health and safety and food hygiene routines. In addition, this is a very customer-facing role, requiring an ability to occasionally diffuse tense situations and deal with customers both satisfied and dissatisfied.
