Christopher has studied the how and why of collective action towards a more resilient and just world for over two decades using a whole-systems framework (what we now call emergence theory). With early experiences studying alternatives to automobility (from social marketing of electric vehicles, combining urban planning and vehicle engineering to develop innovative approaches for collective lifestyle changes, to modeling collective action in mode choice decision-making at the metropolitan level to revolutionize municipal infrastructure investment decisions), his work has expanded to encompass behavioral consultation for families and organizations, research and consultation on intentional community development, and most recently the development of models of emergence in biology using evolutionary game theory. His current research interests include human evolution (especially around moral phenotypes and the emergence of organizational scale in human societies, the biological boundary determining individuality (when do individuals in a collective become parts of a higher level individual?), and most importantly, how can models of these ideas contribute to solving the major multipolar traps that humanity faces during this fateful juncture in our species' history.
