I've returned to my information management roots as Chief of Staff with Data Friendly Space, a U.S.-based NGO working across six continents. As the lead strategy officer, I am working to improve the analysis capacity of global agencies like the U.N. so they can make better informed and more targeted decisions.

Managing the global search and transition to a new Executive Director for one of the humanitarian sector's most innovative INGOs working to strengthen the use of data in response to human and environmental crises. I interact daily with international funders, consultants and staff, and governing boards across four continents. This position will end on March 1, 2023.

In this role, it’s been my pleasure and privilege to serve as a consultant working with a range of international agriculture, renewable energy, and craft beverage businesses to identify new opportunities, recognize and mitigate challenges, create strategic plans, develop training modules, drive revenue generation, liaise with governments, and produce customized corporate strategies to meet their goals. A significant part of this job is actively promoting more robust public policies for our social impact clients and a social services agency. A selection of our most recent projects and successes includes: • Managed a team of grant reviewers for a $70M COVID-19 grant program for small businesses.• Advised on the manufacture of a $100M carbon-neutral, plastic waste management initiative in an economically depressed region of the Mid-Atlantic to boost revenue and job creation. • Delivered expert guidance on the acquisition of a Kenyan dairy business to develop vertical integration and franchise models, including feasibility studies, fundraising initiatives, and value chain development resulting in the development of a joint venture model that will expand operations.• Provided policy and contract lobbying services to achieve regulation changes for a human service agency. • Skillfully supported an energy startup in their investment stage, working in close collaboration with the company stakeholders on draft long-term business plans and aggressive brand growth strategies.Salesforce.com, change management, risk and compliance, and staff management. I co-founded and managed a craft-cider business that has won multiple local and regional awards. I successfully managed brand development and growth, including creating and launching exciting and engaging online and print marketing materials to promote our products and increase brand awareness among target audiences. This led to increased sales revenue opportunities and brand expansion into several Mid-Atlantic markets. I led HR functions, building a high-performance team from the best talent by performing all aspects of the hiring lifecycle, including interviewing, selection, and onboarding to select and develop 17 personnel. On the production side of things, I participated in negotiations with distributors, service providers, and suppliers, developing competitive contracts to control costs and ensure high quality.

As the head of Robert H. Smith Center for the Constitution, an executive-style training center, I led a team of seven communications and technology professionals through all facets of development and delivery of domestic and international programs. I established meaningful relationships with key strategic partners to fund and facilitate a variety of programs. (Partnerships included the Commonwealth of Virginia, the FBI, the Marine Corps University, the National Criminal Justice Academy, and numerous philanthropic foundations.) My fundraising efforts resulted in an increase in program endowment by 25% to a total of $5M. I spearheaded the creation of an international network of scholars and political theorists to increase knowledge-sharing of democratic principles among civil society leaders, and to facilitate public cultural, policy, and political discussions. I also drove the organization’s visibility by exciting and informative digital and social media marketing strategies and print materials, successfully promoting programs to achieve fully-booked events with extensive waitlists. I further supported digital content strategy, building a $4.8M multimedia studio, 130 digital products, and $250K in enterprise software investments to support nine online courses, 70 residential training programs, and dozens of local and national events. Served as Interim VP of Fundraising and Communications.

Directed the Presidential Precinct’s Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders, a 7-week, multi-location leadership initiative of the White House providing training to young professionals and aspiring elected officials from Sub-Sahara Africa, particularly social entrepreneurs and political candidates.-Worked with four historic sites, the University of Virginia, and the College of William and Mary to coordinate curricula from 70 scholars designed for human rights lawyers and policy makers.-Served as moderator of the African Ideas Summit; developed a Rule of Law Conference at the Darden School for Business. -Served as the architect of an international Rule of Law program at the National Archives which included the Prince of Wales.

In this role, I led the development of the Center’s mission, vision, and strategy, establishing a nonpartisan coalition of institutions to create meaningful transformative public policy targeted towards issues of anti-poverty, consumer finance, and healthcare. I served as the public face of the Center, testifying before U.S. Congress on climate change and humanitarian development issues. My dedicated team was comprised of 12 research and policy professionals executing a variety of tasks on a $1.2M budget; I drove revenue growth from an initial starting point of $190K and dramatically increased membership numbers to over 180,000. A few of my proudest achievements included:• Purchasing and renovating a $750K headquarters building for operational offices and organizational incubation spaces.• Achieving an 82% reduction in the number of payday lenders throughout the state. • Successfully lobbying for a statewide decrease in food sales tax.• Launching 17 small business startups within the immediate community by creating a microbusiness model for marginalized communities and providing grants and training to optimize success rates. • Providing education on the Affordable Care Act to enhance the health of marginalized populations.

Negotiated content agreements for thousands of digital assets in a start-up environment. Generated over $800,000 in revenue per year through data consulting services and digital content development. -Led the initial creation and launch of the web-publishing application, WebMedley. -Secured funding for five national Webinars for critical care professionals after September 11, 2001. -Managed 15 sales and client support staff.

Designed and maintained the websites of several disaster response organizations in the United States and Europe.-Implemented web-based fundraising program to grow online gifts from $3,000 to over $80,000.-Served as Acting Director, providing responses to emerging disasters.

Developed information architectures to track and report international aid programs online. -Collaborated with Oracle developers on UX components.-Consulted with of micro-credit organizations in India and Egypt.-Managed logistics for a conference of 5000 participants in Zimbabwe, including the negotiation of complex social and political situations.
