• I had the fortunate opportunity to shadow Dr. Nicholas Abidi MD, an orthopedic surgeon at Golden State Orthopedics & Spine. This health science internship was a part of my Human Biology major at UC Santa Cruz, and was my final independent study class before graduating.• I saw firsthand how an orthopedics office worked. I watched Dr. Abidi interact with patients, conduct physical exams, examine radiology studies, and make diagnoses and provide subsequent treatment options in a clinical environment. I additionally observed 12 surgeries performed by Dr Abidi while engaging and frequently asking questions to better understand the practice of surgery.
