About Conner Dean, Pe

My career has been a journey of passion and dedication to problem-solving, particularly in structural engineering with a residential focus. From my early years, I've been drawn to building and assisting others in creating products or systems. As a licensed Professional Engineer with a structural background and over seven years of experience, I bring a wealth of knowledge and a deep-rooted love for my work. I completed my Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering with a concentration in structural engineering from NC State in December 2016. Over the past three years, I've had the privilege of not only writing proposals and estimates for engineering services, producing and sealing designs, performing site inspections, and consulting with clients, but also managing and mentoring junior engineers. What truly drives me is the satisfaction of delivering high-quality structures through close collaboration with clients, whether homeowners, contractors, architects, or design teams. I take pride in engaging in value engineering, offering alternative solutions and explaining their impact on the structure and overall aesthetics to clients who may not have the same spatial awareness as those in the construction industry. My professional journey has been focused on custom residential and light commercial structures, ranging from designing and engineering screen porches to multi-story steel moment frames in composite lateral bracing systems. My interest in the construction industry is not just a job, but a passion that I've pursued through my engineering electives, which were primarily in the construction concentration. I am particularly intrigued by building science and the challenges and opportunities presented by high-performance, luxury, and green structures.

    Stuctural Engineering Department Manager
    Tyndall Engineering & Design Nov 2023 - Apr 2024
    Garner, North Carolina, Us
While at Tyndall Engineering and Design I managed a team of 5-8 engineers. I reviewed and sealed junior engineer's work, and actively worked towards streamlining department and company operations. My efforts were mainly to train the engineering staff by mentoring and consulting with the junior engineers, and hosting a weekly staff meeting (with the main goal of mentoring and learning as a team about engineering and construction method topics).
  • Oke Nichols Engineering, Inc.
    Project Manager
Oke Nichols Engineering, Inc. Nov 2020 - Oct 2023
    Raleigh, Nc, Us
While at Oke Nichols Engineering, I served as a project manager and estimator. I wrote a large portion of the estimates and proposals that came through the office. Most of my engineering work consisted of residential construction from new construction to remodels and additions. I enjoyed collaborating with clients and their teams to deliver on their project visions and provide recommendations for performance or value engineering measures. I produced and sealed drawings for structures using code prescriptive methods or engineered design when their project fell out of the code applicability. I design and detail connections for lateral bracing systems, large cantilever systems for contemporary designs, high wind zones, and high-end luxury deflection requirements utilizing wood, steel, concrete, and masonry materials

Consideration was taken into account for each client, from budget concerns to framing specifications creating an ideal product for each client.
  • Gate Precast Company
    Engineering Intern
Gate Precast Company May 2015 - Aug 2015
    Jacksonville, Florida, Us
While at Gate Precast Company I was involved with concrete testing, analyzed stresses in precast panels, and worked with quality control. One problem the company had while I was employed was that there was an out of tolerance condition where the bricks supplied were not the same as the agreed upon sample. Quality Control had to go out and count the number of ‘bad’ bricks and total bricks and report back. I wrote an excel spreadsheet that tracked the percentage of bad bricks for each panel as they came out of production. Through coordination with the architect and the president of the branch we set up an acceptable limit of ‘bad’ brick. After this was set up the project proceeded smoother, and much time was saved.
