Headed the organization’s workers compensation and absence management programs. Programs included claims management, insurance vendor management (carriers, brokers, TPAs), loss prevention, compliance and audit functions, insurance policy renewals, safety initiatives, compliance with all applicable protected leave regulations, and ADA accommodations. Managed 4-member department staff, including hiring, goal setting, performance reviews, and professional development. Accomplishments: • Created a streamlined, consistent process for absence management utilizing an Access Database to document a multi-step process. Results: team of analysts managed cases consistently and backed each other up during time of high volume or time off. Precise documentation of cases to show compliance with internal metrics and external laws and regulations. • Created a cooperative return-to-work program placing employees from distribution center into temporary light duty assignments in retail stores. Results: injured employees remained engaged in the workforce and retail stores received extra help needed during high volume retail events.• Collaborated with TPA and attorneys on large-scale claim settlement project to resolve older high-dollar workers compensation claims using more focused and creative settlement approach. 2016 actuarial analysis resulted in $1M decrease in ultimate loss development.

Researched and facilitated all regulatory and compliance issues associated with providing catastrophic medical case management primarily in the workers compensation arena. Created and reviewed all policies and procedures relating to compliance and operational risk management. Ensured successful electronic submission of all medical data to regulatory agencies in compliance with EDI reporting requirements. Performed research and analysis of new and existing business streams for the purposes of evaluating the company’s ability to meet all regulatory and compliance requirements. Accomplishments: • Created policies and procedures for appropriate handling and distribution of protected health information as well as security breach management. • Collaborated with corporate counsel in the development of a 50-state legal survey addressing key areas of workers’ compensation laws relevant to our business.

Built risk management department from the ground up for rapidly changing Professional Employer Organization. Held operational responsibility for a large and complex captive workers compensation program (claims management, loss prevention, development of prospective business underwriting model, workers compensation pricing model, management of all compliance and audit functions), unemployment claims, EPL claims, property claims, E&O claims, acquisition due diligence. Managed 9-member risk department, including hiring, goal setting, performance reviews, professional development, departmental budgeting.Accomplishments:• Developed stable, successful, highly effective, team. • Implemented web-based process for properly classifying workers' compensation exposure of new clients purchasing TriNet services. Results: 50%+ improvement in accuracy of classifications and associated fees while reducing the amount of manual work hours associated with this task by one full-time equivalent.• Conceptualized and worked with IT department to implement web-based distribution of OSHA 300 logs to customers. Results: 75% reduction in hour required to accomplish the task, increased customer satisfaction, and improvement in the security of the data.• Collaborated with broker to write a unique conditional coverage endorsement to Employment Practices Liability insurance policy. Results: Insurance coverage extended to customers while still protecting the company’s liability and controlling costs.• Created and implemented new employee safety orientation for all new corporate employees (scaleable to roll out as product to customers). Results: Compliance with safety plan requirements and increased awareness to safety in the workplace.
