I make science practical. I am curious and adaptable.I’m keen to work with others to improve health equity. How I got to be the way I amBy the time I finished high school, I had attended seven different schools. I’ve since lived in three countries, including eleven different cities and worked in more than a dozen countries: adapting to new environments, building relationships and finding my way in unfamiliar circumstances is in my DNA. As a young person I was incensed by the injustice and inequity I saw in the world. I had the idealistic vision that I could do something to change it and never let go of that belief. Whether it was working as a rehab counsellor, or a health psychologist early in my career or later running a business or most recently as a health researcher, promoting health, social inclusion and equity are at the heart of my work. Having the gift of dyslexia has contributed to my creativity, a keen understanding that mistakes are part of life, and the ability to always find another way. A sense of adventure and the need for challenge is in my bones. I’m a keen scuba diver, traveller and learner. I’ve travelled to many parts of the world and there is virtually nowhere that I don’t want to go and few people I don’t want to meet. Curiosity and an insatiable appetite for learning drive me. I have two PhDs, three master's degrees. I’ve founded businesses, quit work to volunteer for two years in Fiji, skydived and run one marathon so far. I like challenges and don’t mind uncertainty: I know it presents an opportunity to affect positive change. My research is the culmination of my professional and personal development integrated with my most important values. My focus is digital health, and I am particularly interested in how user-based health technologies can help us improve health and promote greater health equity.
