For more than 21 years, I have assessed and approved requests from Alberta residents living with physical disabilities and financial constraints, for last-resort funding for disability related equipment such as power scooters, power wheelchairs, electric lift chairs and hospital beds, scooter hoists, van lifts, porch lifts and ramping. Basically this is equipment that can give a person living with physical disabilities, much more independence, spontaneity, and freedom to access their community and complete their own grocery shopping and banking and attend their own medical appointments , but also do so when they want to, instead of relying on others to do things for them. The equipment also enables Albertans to pursue recreational and social activities that they have often not been able to participate in for many years. With the appropriate equipment, Albertans can lead a much better quality of life and can be much more spontaneous in doing so. In addition, I have learned to make the decisions on how best to stretch and disburse limited funds available to purchase equipment. I also physically managed our loan pool of equipment for 11+ years., and as a result, I learned a great deal about various kinds of disability related equipment, which is a very unique area of expertise. Over the years I worked independently yet cooperatively with related professionals, and developed strong relationships and teamwork building skills that also helped provide better service to our clients, collateral professionals and agencies. As a result, I am often seen as a consultant in the disability equipment funding field. I have often acted as a liaison among agencies, so that the client could piecemeal, properly fund and receive the equipment they so desperately need,. I LOVE IT and am really good at it, and I am also always willing to learn new things.
