Human Needs Project is a San Francisco based Non-Profit, www.humanneedsproject.org, a water based, Clean Technology project which aims to insert utility-community centers into slums, and, through the use of new, clean technology, to provide an engine for self-expression and self-determination to the people who live there.Human Needs Project has built its pilot project in Kibera: opens summer 2014Mission: Human Needs Project is committed to providing clean water, energy and technology to slums around the world through the creation of replicable, and economically self-sustaining Town Centers, which are adapted to each local community through meaningful communication and trade with the local community and culture.Human Needs Project: We believe complex problems require complex solutions. Simply providing a water hole with a pump does not even start to solve some of the basic problems slum dwellers face. Many such water programs have been created with some success and some with little success, and many water kiosks are already available in slums like Kibera where we are in the process of setting up our pilot project.Water alone, will not succeed in creating real change in the lives of slum dwellers around the world. A group of services combined to innovate, educate and energize the local population will provide a dynamic tool for populations to create new lives for themselves. New Clean Technology provides cheap energy to power the Center, where Public Baths, Clean Drinking Water, Lavatories, Information Kiosk, The Green Marketplace, Adult Learning Center, Micro Loans and a Business Center will provide tools for the population to better their own lives. But with Water at its center, and with Clean Technology as its dynamo, - the Community Center aims to provide public services where none exist, while spreading Clean Technology know-how by educating and training the local population in its use, - in turn creating real and useful job skills among the urban poor.
