Qualified response member of four-person U.S. Coast Guard Public Information Assist Team (PIAT), part of the National Strike Force and one of the special forces mandated in the National Contingency Plan. Provides unique, interagency crisis communication experience and expertise to assist Incident Commanders and Federal On-Scene Coordinators to inform the public during critical incidents such as oil, hazardous material, weapons of mass destruction incidents & natural disasters. Trains industry, federal, state, and local response community members in National Response Team Joint Information Center (JIC) Model, risk communications & media relations. During the nation’s third-largest petrochemical spill, executed Public Information Officer duties and provided critical JIC support, managing more than 30 federal, state, local, and industry responders to communicate vital public health, environmental, and economic information to the public, at the 2nd 80’s Fire incident at the Intercontinental Terminals Company in Deer Park, Texas. Coordinated, developed, and implemented social media strategies on Coast Guard enterprise social media accounts, utilizing social media tools and techniques to increase communication with various target audiences. Anchored the Coast Guard’s Paratus Report, a bimonthly workforce news program informing Coast Guard members of new policies, procedures, and events throughout the Coast Guard.

Coordinated public affairs and media relations for the Coast Guard First District’s area of responsibility, which includes Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont, and Maine. Executed photography, videography, news release and feature writing, community relations, speaker preparation, crisis communications and response, and media relations. Conducted media and community relations during the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill, the largest marine oil spill in U.S. history. Collaborated with the Coast Guard Heritage Museum in Barnstable, Mass., to acquire numerous Coast Guard artifacts for displays that highlighted significant accomplishments of the Coast Guard and its members.Planned and coordinated multiple community and media events, including formal dinner and luncheon, award ceremony, wreath laying, Coast Guard flyover, tours, speakers, and the reunion of living crewmembers for the 60th anniversary of the SS Pendleton rescue, a rescue that would later be documented a Disney movie, “The Finest Hours.”
