• Promoted to MTIII with oversight of Mycology section of Microbiology Lab, taking on responsibility for daily work of the section:o Communicating with Mycology techs to ensure use of standard operating procedures (SOPs).o Ordering/completing/submitting College of American Pathology (CAP) surveys in Mycology.o Using MediaLab document control system to update/revise Mycology SOPs to reflect changes in technology and new CAP requirements. o Implementing new procedures such as IMMY Cryptococcal Antigen Lateral Flow Assay.o Retiring old protocols.o Preparing section for CAP inspection by maintaining current maintenance and QC records.o Working closely with Microbiology Directors as needed for problem solving.o Training new employees and students in Mycology section.• Works closely with Manager and others in leadership roles to facilitate staff competencies in Microbiology department by providing unknown test samples, observing bench duties, and checking completed task lists.• Holds weekly staff “huddles” together with leadership team along with composing detailed emails with the discussed information.• Controls workflow in Microbiology lab to create best and most efficient use of time and personnel.• Acts as contact person for the Microbiology department on designated days and strives to solve equipment or other issues as they arise.• Reviews CAP checklists with Microbiology and Lab leadership teams to verify compliance. • Continues to perform MTI duties as required.

• Inoculated and performed microbiological tests, susceptibilities, and procedures, including appropriate QC, on all specimens for diagnosis and treatment of patients, ensuring compliance with accrediting agencies, hospital policies and procedures in Bacteriology, Mycology and Molecular Microbiology.• Worked with Microbiology Directors on various research projects, including Sentry Surveillance project, Staph aureus/mupirocin efficacy study, Nanosphere/FilmArray comparison study, and Beta testing of Film Array 2.0.• Trained students and Infectious Disease Fellows and Interns in microbiological procedures.• Participated in inventory and ordering activities for supplies, materials and equipment, as needed.• Analyzed College for American Pathology (CAP) and other proficiency test samples obtaining accurate results in a timely manner.

• Processed specimens, performed susceptibilities, maintained appropriate QC, and interpreted a wide range of microbiological cultures including AFB and Mycology using manual and automated methods, along with fluorescent microscopy and molecular diagnostics.• Operated the following instruments/systems: BD Phoenix, BD Bactec FX, BD MGIT, BD ProbeTec ET, BD GeneOhm, Cepheid GeneXpert, SoftLab/SoftMic.• Performed rapid immunological assays including Giardia/Cryptosporidia, Cryptococcal Antigen, Rapid Flu, Streptococcus pneumoniae and Legionella Antigen tests.• Set up manual susceptibility testing using Kirby Bauer disk diffusion and E-Tests when warranted
