I am a senior at Oregon State University, pursuing a bachelor's degree in biological data science with an option in computational biology and a minor in computer science. My academic background has prepared me for applying data science methods and tools to biological problems and questions. Currently, I am leading the development of a genome analysis software called DIGIT in Dr. John Fowler's lab, where I also analyze high-throughput RNAseq data using a high-powered computing cluster. Previously, I completed an eight-week bioinformatics project under Dr. Brent Kronmiller, creating a custom machine learning pipeline to extract gene functions from sunflower genomes. I presented my data at the REEU undergraduate research symposium, directed by Dr. Jeff Chang. Additionally, I served as a teaching assistant for BDS 570 (Computing in the Life Sciences), taught by Dr. Molly Megraw, where I helped students with bash scripting, genomic data analysis, and basic machine learning algorithms. I am looking for opportunities to work with mentors, professionals, and other interns on biological data science projects that have impactful goals. I am eager to learn new skills, solve challenging problems, and make meaningful contributions to the field. I value collaboration, perseverance, and innovation, and I strive to apply these principles to my work.
