Currently, I'm about to graduate with my master's in data science in May 2020. Previously, I was in the Air Force as a weather forecaster, so I have plenty of experience working with models and giving presentations. As an undergrad, I led many projects as an IT major. I received a minor in computer science and a certificate in data analysis. I have worked very hard to get to where I am now. For most of my semesters, I either worked a part-time job while taking 15 credit hours or I took 18 credit hours. I wanted to learn as much as I could to be a combatant as I could be in the workforce. That won't stop at school. Not only am I too curious to stay stagnant, but I want to be reliable. While in school, I even pushed myself on how to work in a group. For most of them, I led so that I could build my ability to reach different people. Something I picked up on while in the military is to not talk about politics, religion, and nationality. Everyone has a different background and belief system, and I believe that shouldn't keep people from working together.Another big reason why I took so many classes is that I kept pulling at threads. I would take a class and realize how much more I could learn, so I would ask the teacher how I could expand on what I was learning in the class. I would also ask what other classes I could take that would help me with my career. I may still have a lot to learn, but there really hasn't been much I wasn't able to do if I put my mind to it. Initially, I wasn't very good at programming. Then, I realized how to think like a programmer, and my coding became much sharper. How I fell into data is why I took so many classes in the first place. I saw an opportunity to learn something new and exciting. Almost everything I read talks about how much data is helping solve problems. Since I was young, I wanted to do something that mattered. That's why I joined the military, and that is why I started to focus more on how to manipulate data. Even finding ways to clean and combine data is interesting to me. Again, I may still have areas that I could improve, but even on day one on the job, I'll ask what I can do to be better at my job. Even if that means spending my time researching a little more on a subject.Thank you for reading!
