Growing up, sport has always been a part of my life. Ever since I could walk, I was always going out and trying new sports, and trying to understand everything that went into both playing and running a certain sport. In grade 10, I volunteered with learn to play hockey for my 40 high school volunteer hours and enjoyed seeing others succeed and develop so much that I ended up staying till the end of the season. Continuing through high school, I tried out for as many teams as I could, and even took on an assistant role with my high school soccer team.Although my sports career may have ended a bit quicker than I would have liked, I was quickly able to use my experience to transition my understanding of sport to developing and how to become a team player in the workplace.My passion for sport is what led me to gaining my first part/full time job working in hockey retail, and into my educational path, taking sport management at Humber College. Being in sport management, I have been exposed to the sport industry more than I could have ever thought of. Working in my current job has given me a whole new sense of responsibility and trustworthiness. I was given a key to become a store opener/closer when I was 18, showing the trust that the owner saw in me. Now being 21, this a role that I have held for 3 years, working part time as I complete my post secondary education. When working full time, I was in charge of everything that went on during the day, from dealing with any issues a customer had to finding things to get the staff to do when the day was slow.Working in my current job has given me a strong understanding of how providing to the local community can have a positive impact with the people that you are supporting, and who often in return support you back. Being able to provide for the community has allowed me to make connections with professionals within the sport industry and has given customers the feeling that they can trust the store and employees helping them.As my time in school is coming close to an end, I am open to volunteer opportunities and internship placements within the sports industry and am open to furthering my experience in the sports industry with whatever opportunities may present themselves.
