This workstream is investigating the use of environmental DNA as a tool for the environmental regulation of finfish farms. This work evolved from the Scottish Aquaculture Innovation Centre (SAIC) funded MeioMetBar project, and the follow up project BactMetBar. Part of my role as project coordinator is to attend monthly meetings with external projects partners (from both industry and academia) and to provide group updates on SEPA project actions. I also provide chemical and ecological advice/recommendations on a number of areas which help towards making policy decisions. I regularly engage with industry partners on the potential use of new products for fish farming. My role typically involves assessing these products on their intended uses and toxicity, by conducting environmental risk assessments. I have experience as a project manager, having been the lead for three different projects over the past year. Show less

I was one of the ten candidates (selected out of over 700 applicants) that was recruited into SEPA’s graduate trainee program. The scheme ran from 2019 - 2021. Over these two years, I completed four 6-month rotations in different teams across the organisation. The teams I was part of were LIFE Smart Waste (an EU Life funded project focused on waste management), Chemistry (with a particular focus on aquaculture), Regulatory Strategy and Government Relations, and finally the Change team.
