Youth Justice Worker
Current-Enforces programming and maintains order within the correctional facility to ensure the safety and security of young offenders, staff members and occupants. -Develops professional relationships with the young offenders, advocates for their rights, and ensures that fundamental needs are being met. -Supervises activities within the facility and monitors interactions between young offenders to proactively prevent conflict, including during parental visits. -Utilizes both intrusive and non-intrusive behaviour interventions in times of crisis, as well as provide support to other staff members leading crisis interventions. -Escorts young offenders within the facility and provides transportation outside of the facility (i.e. court appearances, medical appointments, facility transfers). -Conducts regular searches of areas within the facility (i.e. rooms, common areas) to intercept contraband, potential weapons, and identify property damage. -Completes new admission into the facility and completes the required documentation, which also includes conducting strip searches of the youth, in search of contraband and weapons. -Administers medication to young offenders and provides first aid when required. -Documents inmate conduct and reports concerns to superiors, including any documentation to be provided to probation officers and/or the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services.
