Coordinated World Games volunteer operations in the Birmingham Jefferson Convention Complex, which played host to 7 unique sporting events. Prior to the games, I called over 100 volunteers and assisted them with selecting volunteer shifts within the BJCC. Speaking directly to volunteers increased my soft skills and allowed me to fill my venues with hard-working volunteers. Once the games began, I strategically delegated tasks to volunteers to ensure that the needs of the Sporting Federations and the fans were met. Worked collaboratively alongside a talented team of individuals within the Community Engagement team and successfully pulled off the largest volunteer operation in the history of Alabama.

I directly assisted the VP of Sports, Steve Mistrot, and Sports Manager, Nicole Fyffe, in coordinating the sporting events of the games. My role consisted of communicating with leaders of sporting federations around the world via zoom chats, getting trained in venue creation software, and relaying information I acquired back to Nicole and Steve. I also had to read and research information from 31 international sporting federations whose sports will be played in the games and collect data on field of play dimensions, rules of play, and additional information. I was then able to compress the vast amount of data into a condensed and more readable version and transfer said data into the World Games data system. This allowed Nicole, Steve, and I to move forward with creating accurate drawings of all fields of play in their respective geographic position around Birmingham. This practice minimizes error and allows the Sports department to minimize risk of error in the fashion that the sports are conducted, which is an integral part of the games. On top of assisting the sport department, I was able to shadow community leaders and gain insight on the financial, legal, and managerial factors to conducting an international sporting event.I am grateful for the rare opportunity to gain insight into such a historical event for my hometown, and am excited to return working with the World games in Summer 2022. I am confident that this position has increased my ability to think critically when analyzing large amounts of information.
