A specific dye of varying concentrations was used as the adsorbate for the research carried out, a keen interest of which was to determine both the maximum, and rate of dye uptake by the synthesised adsorbents.Further research was carried out to investigate the re-usability of the adsorbents generated by using analytical techniques to look at the breakdown of the spent adsorbent structure, after reasonably short-term UV light exposure. Said investigations were made possible by generating a core-shell structure, whereby the adsorbent was grown onto a different material possessing photo-catalytic properties, and hence the ability to breakdown.Overall the research undertaken involved many characterisation methods, including: - X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) - BET Surface area analysis - Scanning & Transmission Electron Microscopy (SEM & TEM) - Thermo gravimetric analysis (TGA) - UV Vis spectroscopy (Both liquid & solid state)As well as various analysis and sample preparation methods, such as: - Freeze drying - Calcination - Centrifugation The results obtained from the research suggested there may be potential for economical, continuous wastewater treatment using the materials investigated. Data analysis & post processing:o One of my roles was to interpret data pertaining to pressure and temperature recordings, and see how they may have affected the samples taken, especially during the commissioning stages for new products.o Following production runs, I was often responsible for the post processing of material, prior to QA analysis.Spreadsheet generation & refining:o Redesigned the company’s reaction logging spreadsheet to include an interactive chemical risk assessment, rating the danger associated with all chemicals and conditions used, using various Microsoft Excel tools.o Produced timesheets/pivot table analyses for the reactor and post processing units, providing a time breakdown into how hours were spent in the production of each material.
