Working as an apprentice electrician for 2 years, and seeing the residential side of electricity, I decided I wanted to further my knowledge and career. I made the decision that I wanted to become a lineman. I enrolled at Southeast Lineman Training Center and was accepted in the summer of 2014. I started my course at SLTC in September 2014, while I attended I learned how to climb wooden poles, serve as a ground man, navigate around the poles, hand single/double cross arms, sag wire, frame poles, pole-top/bucket truck rescue, Basic FirstAid/CPR, basic flagging. Along with those I also did book work, basic electricity, transformers, personal protective grounding, rigging fundamentals, and electrical systems. While I was attending SLTC I was given the voluntarily opportunity to partake in an event called the 20x Challenge. The 20x Challenge is a 12hr long event that is based off of the training that navy seals go through in their "buds" training. Teaching discipline, teamwork, physical/mental abilities, making quick decisions based on the situation at hand and other skills in that nature.
