For young Connor, the plan was to become a PE Teacher. Here is an overview of how that changed over time and I chased the dream to make a living off my passion, Hockey.👨‍🎓 In 2016, I was supposed to finish university however, 1 failed a dissertation later and I found myself back in 2018 doing one module with a lot of free time. Making lemonade out of lemons, I threw myself into my passion and started coaching part-time for Sheffield HC across their junior section and local schools.👨🏼‍🏫 Following University and a 4-month stint in Australia, I moved down to Oakham School where I had my first taste of working full-time in a boarding school. Here I started to get to grips with what life is like managing large numbers of players, coaches, staff and parents.🇩🇪 2018, Hannover, Germany. Still yet to learn my lesson about throwing myself into situations without understanding the consequences, I moved to a country where I couldn’t speak the language all for the love of hockey. However, again, I made it work, got a job in an international school and coached at DTV Hannover on the side.🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 Following Germany, I moved back to my home club Southport, Merseyside in a Director of Hockey role. I was leading our club programme along and started a community outreach programme and played a key part in linking with Edge Hill University. The result of this was a considerable increase in club membership among other success'.2018/2019, Southport was nominated for England Hockey's Club of the Year and I also personally received a Coach of the Year nomination.
🐸 In 2021, I took the leap from Southport to Manchester. Moved in with a friend, got three different self-employed coaching roles and found a way to make it work.Now I am working full-time in hockey at one of the biggest clubs in the country with 18+ Senior teams and over 400 juniors registered.People often ask, “So what do you do?” and each day is a different answer, but thinking about it more and more, my role in the club is to help kick-start a culture change in communication, coaching and standards, from the W1s playing National Premier League Hockey to Y6s Foundations programme picking up a stick for the first time. Our ambition is for the club to be aligned in what and how we deliver a complete hockey programme for players, coaches and parents of all abilities and experiences.Other achievements:🏆 Advanced Coach Programme, GB Hockey
