I have just over 5 years of industry experience working as an engineer, split between two companies. My first job out of college was working as a Product Engineer for Grammer Inc., they manufacture suspended seating systems for off-road applications serving various large OEMs and small distributors. I worked there for about 3.5 years and gained a lot of valuable experience wearing many different hats. Dealing with all aspects of a project I worked from the pre-sales phase all the way until the seats were manufactured and delivered. I dealt with the design and fabrication of metal, plastic, foam, and textile parts to meet customer needs. My next (and current) job is as a Project Engineer with GEA Process Engineering, another global company, this time being part of the Liquid and Powder Technologies division tasked with designing and delivering filtration systems to customers. Similar to Grammer, I am tasked with executing projects from the pre-sales phase all the way to the system being delivered and commissioned on-site. However, in this new role I am learning more Project Management skills in being in charge of the project budget and overall timing. The application may be different in fluid filtration systems, but I absolutely welcome challenges and new learning opportunities. Through my years of experience I have learned to be highly agile to changing needs and conditions, have an ever increasing attention to detail (ALWAYS double check), and to always communicate effectively in a timely manner. Engineering may be more concerned with developing technical data, but the communication and being an effective conduit to transmit the technical data to meet needs is equally, if not more, important.
