About Connor Rees

I am a Researcher working towards a PhD with ๐จ๐ฏ๐ž๐ซ ๐Ÿ ๐ฒ๐ž๐š๐ซ๐ฌ ๐จ๐Ÿ ๐ž๐ฑ๐ฉ๐ž๐ซ๐ข๐ž๐ง๐œ๐ž in both quantitative and qualitative analysis. I have helped stakeholders through research as well as through the application of research funding bids valued at over ยฃ๐Ÿ๐Œ.Some examples of my research include:โ€ข As a visiting researcher at Tech Against Terrorism, I worked between the Open-Source Intelligence, Policy, Research and Technical teams. By working across multiple teams, I was able to contribute to a ๐Ÿ๐ฎ๐ง๐๐ข๐ง๐  ๐›๐ข๐ ๐ฏ๐š๐ฅ๐ฎ๐ž๐ ๐š๐ญ ๐จ๐ฏ๐ž๐ซ ยฃ๐Ÿ๐Œ that reflected the interests and capabilities of each of the teams. โ€ข During my time as a visiting Research Assistant at Developing Resistance Against Grooming Online โ€“ Spot and Shield (DRAGON-S), I developed new knowledge in linguistics to ๐ฌ๐ฉ๐จ๐ญ ๐ญ๐ซ๐ž๐ง๐๐ฌ ๐š๐ง๐ ๐ฉ๐š๐ญ๐ญ๐ž๐ซ๐ง๐ฌ in language. I used the NVivo program to code over 20 online groomer chat logs. โ€ข I worked ๐œ๐จ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐š๐›๐จ๐ซ๐š๐ญ๐ข๐ฏ๐ž๐ฅ๐ฒ ๐ญ๐จ ๐ญ๐ฎ๐ซ๐ง ๐๐š๐ญ๐š ๐ข๐ง๐ญ๐จ ๐ฏ๐ข๐ฌ๐ฎ๐š๐ฅ๐ฌ that provided a novel finding on extremist use of the internet as a Secondee at the Cyber Threats Research Centre (CYTREC). This led to the publication of a peer-reviewed article, the findings of which were presented to over 10 stakeholders from government and big tech representatives.Additionally, I like to test myself by entering various physical challenges whilst raising money for various charities including triathlons, 24-hour hikes, and staged swims and to name a few. In this vein I set aside personal time to ๐ฅ๐ž๐š๐ซ๐ง ๐š๐ง๐ ๐๐ž๐ฏ๐ž๐ฅ๐จ๐ฉ ๐ง๐ž๐ฐ ๐ฌ๐ค๐ข๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฌ to overcome mental and physical barriers.Opportunities where I get to learn and develop my skills, work alongside stakeholders, and get to communicate complex topics into easily digestible deliverables is something I get excited about.I am always looking to connect with new people, you can reach me at connorrees1@aol.com
