Hello/bonjour! Welcome to my LinkedIn profile - my name is Connor Ruprecht & I am currently a Program Coordinator for Virtual Ventures, a non-profit youth engagement branch of the Office of the Dean of Engineering at Carleton University. I work with youth from Elementary, Middle, and Secondary schools across the Ottawa area. This means I develop & deliver STEM workshops for grades 1 - 12 ranging from the topics of Earth Sciences to Engineering Physics. Before my first full-time career in program coordination, I studied Sustainable and Renewable Energy Engineering at Carleton University. This is a unique and specialized program offered at only a handful of universities across North America. My studies focused on the intersection of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering - power generation & distribution, mechanics, thermo/fluid dynamics, feedback control systems, conventional power generation (nat. gas, coal, etc.) and renewable/sustainable energy generation (solar, wind, nuclear, etc.). In my final year, I studied mechanical system design (plumbing, utilities, HVAC & fire safety) where I honed my design skills that are directly applicable in my current role in the mechanical consulting industry. To elaborate on my previous experiences at Carleton University - in my first year at (2016) I was given the opportunity to contribute to the construction of a tiny house on Carleton's campus; a project headed by Ph.D., Assistant Professor, Scott Bucking. I was given the task to complete the exterior finish (charred cedar) for the house, as well as assist in the general construction of the structure. This experience set the tone for my University experience and, to this day, I still feel the passion for sustainable design and energy efficiency that was started with this project. My previous work at ProEng Consulting was a fantastically informative experience for me. Right after graduating from University, I had the privilege to experience the fast-paced & dynamic environment of mechanical consulting. I learned how to handle dealings with multiple stakeholders and the difference between roles working towards a single purpose. From Client to Contractor Project Managers, I learned how to handle myself professionally & efficiently in different situations. I carry this experience to this day even as I work with different types of stakeholders. Ultimately, my passion for science communication drew me back to Virtual Ventures, but I use the Engineering tools I learned at ProEng everyday.Reach out to me anytime as I'd love to discuss my experience further with you!
