I joined Co-operative Bank in a broad team of almost 30 devs, alongside many agency/temp staff, ~20 testers, and 5 UX/UI split across 4 teams. I joined as part of a green fields team to start recreating all of the old and ailing, to be replaced in 2024Q4, system with newly rebuilt from the ground up React apps utilising express. The stack is comprised of React (TypeScript), node.js (express), and a smattering of Java. Also in our arsenal is a mash of Cypress, Mocha, Chai, JUnit, and Swagger for our testing and mocking purposes. All development is component focussed, to which end I maintain the Storybook of the bank’s modules, as well as being the resident lint-lord, maintaining and pushing our private npm package of linting rules to maintain code parity and clarity across our nearly 30 repos.

At Geronimo Web I am a larger part of a smaller team than my previous employment opportunity, working alongside two other Front End developers, seven Backend, and in close conjunction with two designers and the head of UX and Digital. My job is to deliver high-quality components, modules, and development which does not negatively impact Lighthouse or accessibility scores (the former of which sit between 96-98).At Geronimo I’ve gained experience using the Azure DevOps’ repertoire of tools and abilities, and also, due to it being the last deployment step, gained familiarity with Octopus Deploy. After pushing for more accessibility in my previous job, Geronimo has given me access to pursue those desires in Web Development allowing me to feed back to the Design/UX team and strive for better approaches across the wider development.

At DRP Group I had the opportunity to work in a giant team of over 90 devs, designers, and QA testers. My job consisted of being in the Front End team where I mainly exercised my HTML, CSS, and JS skills while tackling large projects for people such as Jaguar Land Rover, Novo Nordisk, and Worcester Bosch. All of the dev stacks I routinely worked on were unique, with Drupal, Wordpress, and Laravel backends being most prevalent. Working in such a large team helped grow my ability to estimate the costs, time and otherwise, of a project.

While at Flair Consultancy I have had the opportunity to work on SaaS projects alongside their more typical work of BigCommerce theme development, maintenance, and customisations. While we were focused mainly on the theme development, I was often drafted to doing full-stack development normally revolving around creating PHP and MySQLi solutions and integrations. The themes were always small team projects, while the full-stack development was always working solo under the direction of the lead developer. The constant hopping from solo development to customer support to team project afforded me growth as a developer in a proper development environment.

While creating my client’s website I was given the opportunity to lead the development of a site for a well-respected group in their field. The project was to develop a new site to better enhance the users experience, the aim was to improve usability, improve functionality, and create a more modern view into the business. I lead this project through the use of efficient planning and leadership which helped with giving visibility to the customer and the affected teams. The project required the team to meet harsh time constraints. Through this experience I had to adapt and learn quickly, I had developed new skills, an understanding of web technology and techniques including WordPress.

While I was a volunteer as a Teaching Assistant at Queen Victoria, I had to handle many difficult challenges. This was my first experience within a school as a member of staff, I was required to assist in the learning of the children, have one to ones to identify key learning areas, and aid other professionals with their work providing support where necessary. These were very different challenges to my past experience through which I have gained invaluable skills and opportunities.
