Researcher Phd StudentThe University Of Edinburgh Sep 2017 - Jul 2021Projects: Measurement of the 25Mg(d,p)26Mg Reaction to Constrain Reaction Rates in ExplosiveNucleosynthesis - An experiment performed at the Triangle Universities Nuclear Laboratory (TUNL), to constrain the 25Al(p, γ)26Si reaction rate in novae. The experimental data set was analysed in C++ using the ROOT library, with fitting of the model performed and presentation of the results performed using python libraries. This work has now been published in European Physics Journal A, with myself as the principle author (https://doi.org/10.1140/epja/s10050-020-00052-9) and recently presented in the UK Lockdown and Distancing Seminars (http://ns.ph.liv.ac.uk/lockdownseminars.html).Measurement of the 44Ti(α,p) Reaction in Supernovae - Led the experimental and simulation planning of an experiment to constrain the reaction rate for supernovae. A dedicated Monte Carlo program simulated the experimental set up, the results of which were analysed using C++ (ROOT library).Development of a Gamma-ray Detector to Characterise the Energy Spectra of High Energy, Short Pulse Beams - Using a the GEANT4 simulation package (written in C++), a simulation was written to model the output from a proof of-concept detector design, with the ability to characterise the energy spectrum of a short-pulse, high energy gamma-ray beam. The output of this simulation was analysed in C++ using the ROOT library, and guided the optimum design of the detector. -
Undergraduate Teaching AssistantThe University Of Edinburgh Sep 2017 - Jul 2021Edinburgh, United KingdomIn my time as PhD student at the University of Edinburgh, I have had the opportunity to teach undergraduate students in a variety of roles. This has included demonstrating in python programming labs, running undergraduate labs up to honours level, and demonstrating in classical, quantum and nuclear physics tutorials. -
High School Physics And Maths TutorTutoring Sep 2015 - Jun 2017Belfast, United KingdomHaving been personally referred to a parent through my volunteering work, I regularly tutor individuals in GCSE Mathematics and Sciences. Students have had significant success with exam results.
