Since I joined the Social Democrats as National Organiser the party has fought three elections. We increased our city and county councillors from 21 to 35, our TD numbers from 6 to 11 and doubled our membership. As National Organiser my role was to find, develop, train and support candidates to run for election as well as working with our branches all over.

Maynooth Students For Charity

Maynooth Students for Charity has, since 1987, run the Galway Cycle, a charity cycle that takes place at the end of March every year and involves a round trip from Maynooth to Galway and back over the course of one weekend. Board member for 9 years. Moving from a start-up organisation to a point where MSC is the leading and most respected organisation for dealing with homelessness in the Midlands region. My role was as both the media and campaigns advisor and as representative to Simon Communities of Ireland board.

I was the representative on this board from the Midlands Simon Community. I was, at various times, the interim Chairman and the Vice-Chairman. In my role there I gained valuable experience in managing a large organisation, liasing with affiliated organisation (often with competing agendas) and postioning the organisation both in terms of public perception.

The Athlone Voice was, at the time, an exciting start-up, with many of the Ireland's best regional journalists, a point bourne out by where they ended up in more recent years. Initially asked to come on board to cover for sick leave, I was then invited to stay with the paper for a period of some months to bring stability and my experience to bear on the.

During my time as editor, sales of the struggling paper increased by 45%. I moved the date of publication and brought a more coherent design to bear on the paper. I also instituted better and more effective working practices for staff.
