Transport Arendonk bvba set up an Irish division; “O’Neill Logistics Ireland Ltd”. I was appointed Transport Manager and license holder, I worked from an office in Sandyford Business Park. The group ran a fleet of eighty Mercedes Actros 1840 /1 trucks with a 200 13.5mt tautliner, coil carrier trailers. I had responsibility for thirty vehicles, and drivers operating in Ireland, the UK and continental Europe, I used the integrated “Transics” IT system, to expedite collections and deliveries, mainly of full loads. My responsibilities included, importing and licensing the Irish vehicle fleet, truck maintenance scheduling, DOEs, tachograph control, accident reporting, vehicle insurance, taxation, personnel issues relating to drivers (mainly German and Polish nationals) European insurance cards, social welfare and taxation provisions for non national transport workers, insurance claims, EU and Irish VAT returns, driver salaries, accountancy and business development. Monthly management meetings were held alternately in Belgium and Ireland with the Belgian board of directors and managers from other offices without the group (Portugal, Luxembourg, Czech Republic, Slovakia). In August 2009 O’Neill Logistics went into voluntary liquidation, due in the main to an over-dependence (elsewhere within the group) on the steel and related construction industry and the subsequent economic downturn.

  • Irish Warehousing & Transport
    Logistics Manager
    Irish Warehousing & Transport Aug 1999 - May 2002
    Dublin, County Dublin, Ireland
Irish Warehousing and Transport had acquired the Guinness Ireland / Diageo contract to store and distribute their “small-pack” (bottles and cans) product throughout Ireland. I was asked to manage this contract. In September 1999 IWT acquired two warehouses at Mygan Business Park, in Finglas, Dublin 15 (72,000 sq ft). I began working at the Dundalk Packaging plant, with a view to understanding how the business worked and how to most effectively transfer the operation to the IWT facilities in Dublin, I familiarized myself with the tanker division, keg distribution, as well as the bottle and canning lines, the onsite storage facilities, and a number of local haulage contractors. Over the remainder of ’99 and through 2000 I coordinated closure of the storage facilities in Dundalk and the ramping up of the Dublin facility. I set up a sub-office at the Dundalk site and took on three staff to ensure product now went directly from the production line to trailers. In October 1999 the pallet stockholding expanded to over 11,000 (in anticipation of increased “millennium” sales), the total pallet capacity at the Finglas site was 8,000, in November 1999 IWT, I assisted in negotiations between Diageo Revenue Commissioners, to be granted a temporary bond for the disused Allegro warehouse at Sandyford, Dublin 18 which I had sourced. I managed this warehouse in tandem with the Finglas facility for November and December 1999, and closed the site completely as agreed with the Revenue Commissioners, on January 1st 2000. During this period, I managed a warehouse staff of twelve and an office staff of four, all haulage was sub-contracted to approximately twenty different haulage companies. I negotiated rates and ensured service standards were met with each haulier. I trained on the SAP system which was implemented by Diageo at this time.
