In 2012 I was promoted to the role of finance director for the Markland Group, this gave me ultimate responsibility for the finance function as well as, in tandem with the managing director, commercial responsibility for managing the group. At the time, Markland was a diverse group of Investment properties in secondary city locations located across Europe, New York and Florida. The European cities we held investments in were Prague, Wiesbaden, Dublin, London, Budapest, Birmingham and Antwerp. Our investments included shopping centres, office blocks and other commercial investments. The value of our investments in 2012 came to circa €500 million. Since then, our management team of myself and the managing director embarked on a program of disposals with the aim of divesting the group of all assets and subsequently closing the group which we are close to doing now. The property sales took various forms including company sales (two in the Czech Republic had significant staff attached who transferred with the company to the new owners.) This program gave me significant transaction experience as I led the finance aspect for all of them.As finance director my role covers F P & A, consolidated financial reporting, leading the audit and all KPI, management account preparation. I am also responsible for systems development, I lead the installation of the property and finance system Yardi in 2013.
