Randall Centre Of Cell And Molecular Biophysics

My research was focused on the focal adhesion proteins, vinculin and talin and the mechanosensitive protein-protein interactions they form within nascent focal adhesions. I am using FRET tension biosensors to probe specific force-sensitive interactions during focal adhesion initiation and maturation. I am specifically interested in the role that mechanosensitive signalling plays in cell motility and how this can lead to tumour growth and metastasises.

• Conducting industrial aerosol research regarding particle characterisation and analysis of tobacco smoke deposition and retention• Obtaining measurements of various aerosols through volunteer, simulated and machine-based tobacco smoking procedures to support departmental projects• Using differential mobility spectroscopy to perform analytical measurements to investigate how smoking under different parameters and regimes affects aerosol particle size and toxicant dose• Exploring smoke particle density using novel technologies, including new research using Centrifugal Particle Mass Analyser (CPMA), to deduce mass-to-charge ratios for specific aerosol particle sizes, a technique for which I co-led the method development.
