In my role as Senior Project Engineer for the Design Team I lead the application of relevant technical and safety designs into the Intercity Express rail vehicle production environment. Managing a team of 6 Design Engineers I lead the industrialisation of Japanese-based IEP vehicle design towards a Design for Manufacture culture by engaging in the design process such that the output is suitable for UK Manufacture. Working closely with my colleagues in Japan I drive the detailed engineering designs with respect to the application of mechanical systems into railway vehicles. I am responsible for cascading design and BOM changes into the UK business in a timely manner whilst targeting minimum disruption to the build plan. I actively engage in the management of the supply chain in terms of relationship management, holding and managing project meetings, technical support, programme management and the drafting of technical requirements. I am also responsible for the generation of preliminary interior design configurations in support of new franchise bids, responsible for the engineering design, development and modelling of new trains and systems as required by the customer specifications.

As the Rail Vehicles Group Manager at NewRail Centre for Railway Research I led a team of engineers and researchers to deliver the technical outputs and schedules of EU-funded projects. I was responsible for developing international partnerships and consortia to prepare proposals and tenders to EU research initiatives in the transport and security sectors. My tasks included: Project management and co-ordination, Design Engineering Technical Leadership, counter-terrorism research and design, CAD modelling and FEA, project planning, resource allocation, financial planning, performance reviews, establishing and developing business partnerships, and speaking at international conferences and symposia.

I was the Manufacturing Engineering Team-Leader responsible for the A400M Structures Test deliverables. I was directly responsible for the design and production of composite and metallic wing components in support of research test activities, including supplier monitoring of outsourced items. I managed a team of 13 engineers and technicians to ensure the timely, and to cost, delivery of an 11 metre test wingbox. I was responsible for coordinating the production schedules of the major static and fatigue wings to ensure the incorporation of test instrumentation without affecting aircraft delivery timescales.
