I worked in the Process Development laboratory where I was focused on optimising the processes used in the adjacent API manufacturing facility, along with devising, planning and developing new processes to be introduced into production. This is achieved by:• Carrying out process trials at laboratory and pilot plants scale under full cGMP conditions• Investigating methods of maximising yields• Devising methods for making products at the required scale• Generating test protocols and procedures for product evaluation (such as colour, HPLC & GC impurity profiles, crystal shape & size and moisture content) • Maintaining a high level of communication with QC, QA and the production stuff to ensure that all work was carried out under standard plant procedures and in accordance with the relevant SOP(s)Generally, the short-term work was troubleshooting. This typically involves assisting the manufacturing facility if a problem arose.Longer term projects would involve redeveloping the industrial process to improve yield or plant/production efficiency.

Delivered continuous professional development (CPD) sessions to primary school teachers to support SFI's DPSM initiative. This involved:- Demonstrating scientific experiments suitable for primary school level- Instilling an enthusiasm for science into the teachers who will deliver the primary science curriculum- Bring the skills and materials into schools so they could partake in the nationwide Greenwave mass experiment- Encourage engagement between schools and Scientists & Engineers through the Awards of Science and Maths Excellence

Thesis Title: Geminally Bis(supermesityl) Substituted Phosphorus Compounds and A Study of 5,6-Substituted-AcenaphthenesI researched the effect of placing large, bulky groups on a phosphorus atom. I was particularly interested in the effects this might have on chemical stability. As part of this work I learned to work with minimal oversight when necessary but also the importance of team work in collaborative efforts. I also developed good organisational and time-management skills.
