At Murmuration I oversaw a thriving, multi-disciplinary Technology Division which encompasses the Software Engineering, Data Engineering and Data Management functions. We were responsible for delivering Murmuration's core web and mobile applications, data architecture and data products.We worked at the intersection of data, tools and data science to build an easy to use CRM that allows our partners to leverage the power of targeted data in the advocacy and campaign space. We strived to make the hard things easy for a non-technical audience.

Murmuration is a non-profit focused on providing cutting edge data services and analysis to other non-profits. As VP of Data Product, I have four key responsibilities:1. Managing a Data Science team, consisting of three PhD Data Scientists who execute a variety of advanced statistical and machine learning based tasks to analyze, assess and decipher local election results and campaign voter contact efforts. 2. Managing a Data team consisting of Data Managers, Database Engineers and Business Analysts who are responsible for an AWS cloud-based data architecture, centered around a moderately large AWS Redshift, MongoDB database and assorted others AWS resources for managing various ETL and reporting processes. 3. Product Management for a customized web platform built in collaboration with 3rd party developers. 4. Various executive responsibilities as part of a 5 person leadership team, including strategic planning, budgeting, lead hiring manager on all technical roles, and company-wide goal setting. Secondary responsibilities include architecting and building automated processes that allow the Data and Data Science teams to work together more efficiently, and designing a curriculum to train all members of staff on core technologies including Python, SQL, statistics and basic machine learning concepts.

During my time as Vice President of Data and Analysis, my division included multiple teams, with direct reports including the Director of Data, Director of Analytics and the VP of Software. Our combined core mission was to deliver EnergyScoreCards; a custom built analytics web platform that helped property owners and developers manage their energy use across large portfolios of buildings. I was also the Product Manger of EnergyScoreCards for many years designing the core algorithms that allowed it to grow from early Excel prototypes to a multi-million dollar web-tool servicing thousands of properties in 49 states. During that time, I was responsible for growing the team from 2 (myself and a lead developer) to a 25 person multi-disciplinary team focused on data collection, aggregation and analysis. In addition to divisional responsibilities, I served as part of the companies leadership team for many years, performing a typical range of executive functions, including budgeting, financial modeling and planning, high profile sales, and assisting in pitching to investors.

In my early days at Bright Power, I built analysis tools and prototypes that helped our customers identify and fix energy problems at their buildings. Much of this early work was done using VBA, Groovy and IDL.

As a postdoc, I worked on a variety of projects including simulating observations for future NASA missions to Jupiter, binary asteroid detection and analysis of the surfaces and atmospheres of Io and Titan.

My PhD thesis covered a range of topics centered on Io, one of the moons of Jupiter. Using data taken at the W. M. Keck telescope in Hawaii, I studied volcanic eruptions, the atmosphere and mapped sulfur dioxide ice distributions to better understand the internal workings of this enigmatic moon. I also worked on a paper that discovered hydrocarbon drizzle on Titan, a moon of Saturn.
