Student work placement with duties ranging from facility operations; e.g., cleaning and tidying, setting up for various sports and events; to car park marshaling, minor levels of gym supervision and being involved in leading fitness classes; and low level customer relations such as giving tours of the facility to potential clients and answering queries. Very enjoyable experience.

This role entails a wide range of responsibilities. Firstly, as a porter, I am usually the first point of contact for a guest upon entering the hotel, be it in the form of performing valet duties, which included parking the guests car and taking their luggage into the hotel to be brought to their room. Some of my other roles includ being present at the front desk in order to be readily available for any customer queries, to performing room service deliveries to rooms from the bar and restaurant, performing various requests for quests, such as delivering supplies to rooms, e.g towels, providing technical support for in-room entertainment usage, e.g operation of chromecast tv, and small maintenance jobs around the hotel such as changing lightbulbs. I was also involved in the conference and events area of operations, with respect to setting up tables and basic AV systems in conference rooms. My main focus during my shift is to provide a welcoming and friendly interaction with every guest at all times, and I strive to break down the traditional employee/customer relationship and have normal conversation as I would outside of work, while maintaining an extremely professional demeanour at all times.
