After 35 years of seeing the unique gifts and "outside-the-box" thinking of students with learning disabilities, I have become passionate about their success, particularly their navigation of the make-or-break transition from high school to college.The postsecondary success rate of this cohort is needlessly low. Many capable students fail due to lack of understanding of the differences between high school and college, causing them to make inadvertent navigational errors that precipitate an irreversible downhill slide. Students also lack the study skills required to process large quantities of information. Finally, many students fail due to poor "fit"-- their college simply can't satisfy their special needs.The good news is that all of this is FIXABLE. Through years of experience with my own son with LD, as well as many other students, I've come to identify student and parent actions that result in frustration and failure, and conversely, those that lead to a return on your investment..Since 1993, I have dedicated myself to teaching high school students with learning differences (and their parents) how to prepare for the rigors of college and thrive once admitted.
