About Conrad Addikah
I am a Plant Scientist with over 8 years of diverse experience in the agricultural research industry. My expertise spans through climate-smart agricultural practices, crop nutrition, soil science, conservation agriculture, precision agriculture, project management, and business development. I have worked in soil labs utilising spectroscopy techniques to quantify soil fertility levels, both as an analyst and later on as a specialist. While undertaking these roles, I established a proven track record of delivering training on Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) to smallholder farmers in multiple African countries and upscaling the use of mobile soil laboratories across Africa under The OCP School Lab project. I have also worked with start-ups and companies that utilise cutting-edge innovations to deliver sustainable solutions. In this setup, my focus includes working with novel crops like water lentils, particularly for their high potential in crude protein and their isolates (RuBisCo). I am privileged to be a member of the team that extracted a high-purity RuBisCO protein isolate with desirable functional properties (gelling, colour, taste, foaming) from water lentils that serve as an alternative protein. During my graduate studies in Nigeria, I worked on a cassava biofortification project that aimed to understand the genetic variability in two breeding cassava populations for beta-carotene content, resistance to cassava mosaic disease and plant architecture. In my managerial roles, I have been a key contributor to teams working on mega-projects, demonstrating proficiency in product discovery, development, project leadership, and management. My motivation lies in collaborating with organizations offering innovative solutions to farmers, agribusinesses, and Ag-Tech-based entities, especially those addressing Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the food security domain.
