Five and a half years with BR (as it was then!) involving rapid progression from Junior Clerk (CO1/2) to my final role at Marylebone Station during the Total Route Modernisation programme of the Chiltern Line.I received two letters of commendation, owing to my efforts to keep a (relatively) normal service running during two successive winter incidents that closed the line between Plymouth and Liskeard.Upon the publication of BR's first 'Annual Report' in 1990/1, I (correctly) predicted the privatisation of BR in the event John Major would be re-elected as Prime Minister... privatisation finally occured in 1996 - not bad for a 20 year old, but neither 'rocket science' or mystic!
