I am an independent consultant with over 30 years’ experience in tax technology and the digitalisation of fiscal systems. I was a partner for 25 years in Deloitte and Arthur Andersen, assisting taxpayers and revenue agencies make the most of the digitalisation of countries’ fiscal systems. I now research and advise on the digital disruption in global tax.I assist several technology businesses that are focussed on transforming the way fiscal systems work, and I am the Chair of the Advisory Board of the Oxford Internet Institute, Oxford University, and a Visiting Policy Fellow. I am based in the UK but have operated around the world. I ran the Abacus tax software business In Deloitte for nearly 10 years, from start up until sale to Thomson Reuters. I was on the Deloitte Global Tax Executive for over 10 years, most recently as the global Chief Digital Officer from 2017 until 2021. I focus on the ways in which digital technologies are transforming fiscal policy around the world. In particular, to understand the digital future we can expect in tax systems and what that means for the tax profession and the taxpayers it serves.I graduated from Oxford University with a degree in Law and was an officer in the Royal Navy before becoming a tax adviser. I qualified and am a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales and of the Chartered Institute of Taxation.
