In 2020, I began pairing nature photos, taken on my morning run, with lines from varied poems. I wrote a headline and posted one each day on social media. This turned out to be a much needed creative outlet for the pandemic years: I read hundreds of poems and added to my love of poetry. I continue this practice today and created a public site on Instagram @poemrunnerink. Since my retirement in 2022, I have been writing poetry and had the exceptional experience of attending the Iowa Writers' Workshop for poetry in May 2023. Today I continue writing and attending workshops with the desire for future publication (not on social media).

During my 6 years as head of the English Department I accomplished three major goals impacting writing, lesson planning, and ELA scores, which have had lasting impact on the department, and on the school community and culture.1. Conducted monthly Professional Learning Community (PLC) meetings for faculty of 16 teachers, including teachers of English, Special Education, ESL, and READ 180, to address and improve practices related to ELA including state required use of CCSS, PARCC, and SGOs.2. Created and facilitated profession development workshops for the English Department and the Englewood Public School District for curriculum development based on Unit Design using the Grant Wiggins UbD model during the summer of 2010 and following school year. Units developed for grades 9-12 were subsequently approved by the Board of Education and implemented throughout the English department. This initiative directly contributed to improved state ELA scores over the next four years.3. Designed and put into action a Writing Portfolio initiative throughout the English department. Teachers created or re-designed writing tasks, 2-4 per semester, for student Portfolios: samples included short and long writing responses, analytic and holistic rubrics, drafts and revises, and informational and literary texts directly related to curriculum and standards. This initiative directly contributed to improved state ELA scores over the next five years.

As an outgrowth of volunteer service to the Montessori preschool my children attended, I created this part-time business teaching state-of-the art educational computer games (prior to the internet and world wide web) to young children.o Annually taught 35-60 children educational computer games each week in top Bergen County Montessori Schools.o Developed curriculum units based on math, reading, writing, problem-solving and art.o Annually presented program details to parents at Information Sessions; o Provided quarterly newsletters and individual Progress Reports to parents of enrolled students.

During my nine years as as an entrepreneur, I served more than 1,200 young people with math and reading enrichment, earned recognition from the national company, and helped approximately 50 students gain admittance into county magnet schools. o Defined, developed, built and sold successful franchise that offered math and reading enrichment through an individualized program of worksheets to children from varied backgrounds and communities ages 3-17. o Annually promoted 20% of students beyond grade level; achieved high annual retention rate leading to enrollment of approximately 200 students year round; received top growth achievement and retention awards from Kumon North America, Inc.

From graduate school in Ohio to a New York City trade magazine, this first professional journalism job for Credit & Financial Management magazine (later know as Business Credit magazine) set the stage for my career as one of ongoing growth and change.o Produced a 50,000 circulation, 64-page monthly trade magazine; solicited and edited articles and columns from members and related professionals.o Managed and increased ad sales (24%); supervised $300,000 budget.o Revolutionized the production of the magazine with emerging page-publishing software and desktop computers.o Oversaw graphic redesign of the magazine as the result of new automated page-publishing, and printing at Dartmouth.
